The site includes the latest edition to the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, a basic clinical and pharmacological tool that provides useful clinical information to physicians, medical students, interns, residents, nurses, pharmacists, and other health-care professionals in a concise, complete, and accurate manner. The Alfa Institute of Biomedical Sciences (AIBS) has created a medical education portal providing a selection of open access resources filtered to meet the highest scientific standard. The web portal e-meducation provides free high quality educational material in several medical fields, including internal medicine, infectious diseases, dermatology, nosocomial infections, antimicrobial resistance, Hepatitis B virus, general surgery and surgical infections. Our educational site also includes clinical quizzes, videos, photo banks, and teaching cases.
eMedicine
eMedicine is an online clinical medical knowledge base that was founded in 1996 by Scott Plantz and Richard Lavely, two medical doctors. It was sold to WebMD in January 2006.
It is web-based and consists of clinical overviews of disease entities by experts in the field. Continuing medical education credits may be extended to those who complete questionnaires relating to each of the articles. It consists of all the major topics that are found in each of 62 clinical subspecialties that comprise nearly all of clinical medicine. Each topic is written by a board certified subspecialist in the subspecialty to which the chapter-like article is assigned, and edited by three additional board certified subspecialists, as well as a pharmacy editor.[citation needed] All authors' and editors' academic affiliations are listed with their names. Approximately 10,000 doctors from all over the world helped create its content.[citation needed] All articles are updated periodically through a publication system designed specifically for the eMedicine site. It is read by doctors and medical students from approximately 120 countries.[citation needed] Updating occurs regularly as new advancements in medicine occur, and the date of the most recent update is published on each chapter.

The National Library for Public Health improves access to the evidence-base for public health and population-based commissioning. The library will become a core resource for commissioners as set out in the Department of Health Commissioning Framework document. Although there are gaps in the evidence-base, it is important that high quality individual pieces of existing research and systematic reviews are easily available to public health practitioners, service commissioners and the public.
